About this app
Track which of Japan's 85 confirmed Ichinomiya (一の宮) — the highest-ranked Shinto shrine of each of Japan's historical provinces — you've visited. No sign-up required.
What is an Ichinomiya
Before Japan's modern prefectures, the country was divided into historical provinces (令制国). Each province had a shrine ranked highest in status: its Ichinomiya. This list keeps only the 85 shrines confirmed by the primary scholarly source (『中世諸国一宮制の基礎的研究』, Iwata Shoin, 2000); a few provinces have two, where the top rank was historically disputed (e.g. Yamashiro Province).
